Metabarcoding to establish freshwater indicators of environmental degradation in the Indo-Burmese biodiversity hotspot

چکیده

Biodiversity hotspots of the world are increasingly exposed to anthropogenic pressures and resulting ecosystem breakdowns. However, biotic surveys for ecological status assessment rarely conducted in poorly characterised, yet highly diverse ecosystems tropics subtropics. Here, we addressed challenge developing a monitoring system highland streams Indo-Burmese biodiversity hotspot Bangladesh, using meta-barcoding approach investigate impacts growing on studied invertebrate communities. Species richness beta diversity region were correlated with stressors that varied greatly between sampling sites. A partial-network allowed us identify potential indicator species either good or poor status. Overall, our results document high pronounced responses disturbance these unexplored, but threatened habitats. In combination classical taxonomy approaches, metabarcoding can therefore serve as valuable tool rapidly generate lacking baseline information facilitating conservation vulnerable ecosystems.

Spatial Representativeness of Environmental DNA Metabarcoding Signal for Fish Biodiversity Assessment in a Natural Freshwater System

In the last few years, the study of environmental DNA (eDNA) has drawn attention for many reasons, including its advantages for monitoring and conservation purposes. So far, in aquatic environments, most of eDNA research has focused on the detection of single species using species-specific markers. Recently, species inventories based on the analysis of a single generalist marker targeting a lar...

the effect of taftan pozzolan on the compressive strength of concrete in the environmental conditions of oman sea (chabahar port)

cement is an essential ingredient in the concrete buildings. for production of cement considerable amount of fossil fuel and electrical energy is consumed. on the other hand for generating one tone of portland cement, nearly one ton of carbon dioxide is released. it shows that 7 percent of the total released carbon dioxide in the world relates to the cement industry. considering ecological issu...

Next-generation monitoring of aquatic biodiversity using environmental DNA metabarcoding.

Global biodiversity in freshwater and the oceans is declining at high rates. Reliable tools for assessing and monitoring aquatic biodiversity, especially for rare and secretive species, are important for efficient and timely management. Recent advances in DNA sequencing have provided a new tool for species detection from DNA present in the environment. In this study, we tested whether an enviro...

Impacts of Dams and Global Warming on Fish Biodiversity in the Indo-Burma Hotspot

Both hydropower dams and global warming pose threats to freshwater fish diversity. While the extent of global warming may be reduced by a shift towards energy generation by large dams in order to reduce fossil-fuel use, such dams profoundly modify riverine habitats. Furthermore, the threats posed by dams and global warming will interact: for example, dams constrain range adjustments by fishes t...
